A Content Management System is also known as CMS and is a web based application that allows an easy way for lay people to manage the content of a complex web site. The CMS will provide a method for the managers of the site to create content without the worry of "breaking" the site. The site is created by a programmer with one or more templates so that a consistent look and feel is maintained throughout. The templates can be as simple as designing a page that the user will manage through a web based text editor like a word processor to something as complex as a item description for a store that has many attributes that need to be standardized across items.
Any Content Management System based web sites that we develop will, where appropriate, leverage all current technologies including semantic markup, CSS, AJAX and DHTML. These technologies will provide the best user experience for your constituents.
Open Source
Open Source CMSs has become a standard that many major websites have been built around. When it comes to support, the community will always be there to lend a helping hand. The next advantage to Open Source is the cost of entry - there is none! Simply download the application and you're off to the races.
There are many flavors of CMSs out there, we have chosen three to work with that we feel are best of breed and well respected in the field.
Each has a different core competency and we determine the most appropriate, based upon our clients' individual needs.
Custom Solutions
In the past, the selection of tools available for content management were few and far between. In addition, sometimes it is necessary to implement a solution that just doesn't exist elsewhere. In those cases we have turned to custom building a CMS exactly to our clients' specifications. Our typical approach would be to use ASP.NET coupled with XML and XSLT to allow for templated results that require a minimum of work in the event look and feel requirements change.
Learning Management Systems
We would be remiss in not mentioning or work with Moodle. Moodle is an open source learning management system (LMS). We have deployed Moodle for an Ivy League School to host online educational sessions as well as testing.
